directors editors -> filmmakers

entourage is a great show!

i just completed the entire series of 5 seasons. finally after a break, when i couldnt get the dvds from the library. the show has alot of directors 'guest appearing' in the show, and i been watching some of the 'makings of...' and featurettes. and here are my thoughts...

in a great movie, the directors and the actors are always the one being recognised.

producers, the one that makes everything happen, doing alot of shit. are under-recognised job. worst of all, i personally think, editors, who brings the magic to the screen, are the worst of the lot. at least producers earn all the profits if the film turns out well. editors. hmm? tough work. standard pay. not recognised at all. the guy for bangkok dangerous. according to cheeharn, is a thai, did a fantastic job. but no one really recognised it.

tough. a tough industry indeed. in a country as small as singapore, we gotta stop thinking that we are small in size, and think that we cant be great. well. true that we dont not have enough budget and support, but we sure do have talent. so dream big! haha jiayou, filmmakers!

filmmakers: definition: people who shoot films, regardless of whatever roles they are taking.

DJ-ing

i got my dj equipment, a mixer about 1 month ago. been mixing and practicing for a bit. anyway, i went down to the bar on thurs, and waited for 1 hr, before the Dj at the bar, who apparently plays his songs off itunes, allowed me to DJ for a while. well, the a while lasted for 1hr plus. it was a gd experience. murphy's law did happen, not able to get the sound inputs to the speakers, choosing some songs that people dont really like. but over, it was a great experience.
might be gg back again... cheers

trip to disney world

last weekend, we drove down to florida - state of sunshine. haha. the drive was pretty terrible. esp on the way back. a total of about 10 hours, split by 2. the way there was raining very heavily, a few times that the car skidded (due to south carolina's poor road constructions), but all's good. i did first 3 hour straight, rested for 3 hours and another 3 hours plus a little, we reached daytona beach. the amount of time i drove, and the speed, i think i could go 8-10 laps round singapore. too bad, the daytona track was closed by the time we hit there after the beach, if not i think i could pull off some initial D or fast and furious. sian

but anyway, we headed down to orlando, hit the universal studios. lucky enough, after 11pm, its for 21 and above. so i went on in, to hard rock cafe, took some pictures, had bubba gump shrimps(prawns). if u had not watched forest gump, then u will not know bubba gump, and guess what, i just watched forest gump few days b4 i went over and totally thrilled to see bubba gump! haha not sure which one came first, the restaurant or the movie but i believe its the latter, cause the restaurant was full of pictures from the movies, even some of the dishes are named after the characters.

Then disney world. we chose magic kingdom cus its the most authentic. its expensive! very expensive. and the rides were catered for the kids. so thats why they were not very 'thrilling and exciting'. =/ sadly to say. the highlight of the entire park was the fireworks. and i choose to believe that 90% of the ticket price went into the fireworks, which they set every night. seeing ur money go up into the sky in flames, isnt a great feeling, esp one u have to relive every 9th Aug , if u are a taxpayer. if u get what i mean? haha

cheers people. here are the pictures.

The Departed vs Infernal Affairs

as most of know, the departed was remade from the hk film infernal affairs/wu jian dao.

and like the latter, the departed has won many awards and gained alot of recognition. and in fact, almost all the people that i ve talked to so far from america, thinks that the departed is one of the greatest film ever made in probably the past 10 years. however, when i asked about whether any of them know that it was a remake of a hk film, none of them knew about it. apparently, no advertisements here in the states really mentioned anything about it. isnt it sad?

like idea kanna koped, but no recognition of it was given. from a preliminary research that i did, the hk film industry has been heading downhill for the past decade. i think we can see for ourselves too. and as an attempt to save the industry, they gave hollywood the right to reproduce infernal affairs.
and this is what they get. -.- i mean its great that the story is well liked and enjoyed by all in the world, all from different backgrounds, all speaking different languages.

however, i think the fact that little to none recognition to wu jian dao pisses me off slightly... when i feel that the departed was a disappointing film.

let's do some comparison.

casting. ok justified. all the names in both the film were big names.

story. more or less the same, changed slightly to adapt to boston's context. however, the hk triad idea appeals more than the italian mob/mafia idea.
moreover, the story was original by alan mak...

ending of departed was terrible. no suspense at all. not much cutting at all. everyone died in less than 30 seconds. what a great way to end off the story.

i think i may be biased, cus wu jian dao is one of my all time fave movies. but i feel the injustice to it. and guys, urge u all to go watch both. and u can see for urselves.
